Secret-Ingredient Chocolate Mousse Dip

Secret-Ingredient Chocolate Mousse Dip
What could be better than a rich, creamy, decadent Chocolate Mousse you ask??

I'll tell you...

A rich, creamy, decadent Chocolate Mousse that is NOT packed with saturated fats!!

I'll even go one step further.

How about a rich, creamy, chcolate mousse that IS PACKED with healthy fats.  You know the ones... the oh so glorified monounsaturated fats.  The fats that actually help lower bad cholesterol (LDL)  and raise good cholesterol (HDL).

So what is it that makes this mousse so magical?  So "fit friendly"?  SO unbelievably good?

drumroll please.....

AVOCADO!

An avocado is unbelievably capable of bringing the same level of body, richness, and depth to this mousse that you would normally seek from cream.  But instead of getting bombarded with the not-so-coveted saturated fats we get to enjoy this little bit of heaven while loading up on the oh-so-desired monounsaturated fats.

This mousse also escapes the addition of refined sugar by using agave nectar instead of white sugar.  Leaving us with a "clean-eating" friendly chocolate mousse!

NOW FOR A FRIENDLY REMINDER
If you are anything like me, you may sometimes find yourself confusing the terms "Feel-Good- Fit-Friendly-Food" with "Feel-Free-to-Eat-as-Much-as-You-Want-Food" (it's a common mistake)!

Now don't go being too hard on yourself, it happens SO I just wanted to gently remind us (that would be you and ME) that although nutritious, this decadent dessert still has plenty of fat and calories SO try and skip the desire to polish it all off yourself and please enjoy it within moderation AND for goodness sakes SHARE with your Valentine!!

As you can see, I served this mousse with lots of fresh fruit and some mini-whole-grain chocolate chip cookies from Trader Joe's.  This was kind of like a mousse-like fondue dip, but you could also serve it as is, simply topped with a dollop of fresh whipped cream (YUM!).

Feel free to experiment with the consistency by adding more or less soy milk to the mix.  This  recipe could easily go from mousse to pudding to fondue just by playing with the amount of milk added.  Enjoy!

Secret-Ingredient Chocolate Mousse Dip

Ingredients

1 avocado, peeled and pitted

¼ cup cocoa powder

¼ cup agave nectar

½ tsp vanilla extract

½ cup unsweetened vanilla soy milk

Directions

Place avocado into a food processor and blend until the avocado breaks down a bit.  Add cocoa powder, agave, and vanilla and blend again until you have a nice smooth consistency.

Add in the soy milk* to thin out the mixture a bit.  Blend until everything is well incorporated.

Chill in the fridge for a couple of hours.  Enjoy!

Serves 4.

*You can add more soy milk if you are looking for a thinner consistency.

Linny Bee :

That looks SO delicious! In the morning I will check if my neighbor's tree has any avocados! Oh, and where did you get those gorgeous strawberries this time of year?

Tracey :

Hey Dani!
How many servings is the nutritional info based on?

I think avocado and chocolate is one of the best combinations. . . ever. I make a chocolate pate with avocado that's almost solid (you slice it for dessert) but have never made something this light and mousse-like. I bet the texture is just heavenly, silky and smooth! Okay, now I have to go eat an avo for breakfast ;)

jeanie :

thank you thank you!
it's getting really boring foodwise around here, now that i've been diagnosed with abdominal adhesions, and still recovering from C. diff. I've gone gluten-free and dairy-free to calm things down...I try drinking licorice tea when my sweet tooth is inflamed. ha.
This recipe looks like it just might fit the bill with my valentine and give me some chocolate love-power!

Linny - I'm so jealous of your neighbors avocado tree!! A for the berries... I got them at the farmers market here in SO CAL & I gott atell ya, they were as good as they look:).

Tracey - Woops! This is for 4 servings.

Ricki - Mmmmm.... pate?! That's it... I'm over to your blog right now!

Jeanie - Licorice tea soothes a sweet tooth?? Who knew? I'll have to try it to believe it!
