Strawberries and Peaches w/ Balsamic Glaze over Vanilla Ice-Cream
This is one of those "looks-really-fancy-but-couldn't-be-any-easier" desserts. There's not much to it, simply combine some berries with the Balsamic Glaze and spoon it over some vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt.
Which bring me to a totally different topic: Ice-Cream vs. Frozen Yogurt!
I am a huge ice cream freak (I would eat it all day, every day if I could). And for a long time I would always buy the frozen yogurt (which I enjoy just as much) thinking I was making the better choice. But lately I've been torn. Sure frozen yogurt has a few less calories and a little less fat per serving BUT it also has more sugar and a lot more "hard-to-pronounce-God-only-knows-what's-in-it" ingredients. Not to mention that I think when I buy frozen yogurt there is an unspoken rule that goes off in my head which states, "Oh, it's only yogurt... you can have the extra serving or two..". HA!
So after weighing the pro's and con's of both options I've been going for the real deal lately... no fillers, no crap... just cream, sugar, and eggs. But I can't help to sometimes feel like at the end of the day it's six of one half dozen of another, you know what I mean?
SO, I ask you: When going for a little frozen treat do you do the real deal ice cream or some frozen yogurt?

Kaman :
I would normally just go for the lower calorie one, but one of my ALL TIME favs is the Organic SO Delicious stuff. It's sooooo creamy and one of the lowest calorie ones I have found. :)

It depends on what I have in the house, I like to go for frozen yogurt, or low calorie ice cream. Is the balsamic glaze sweet or is it tangy?

Maya - The glaze is sweet and tangy... I usually add a little honey or agave syrup to it when I am going to have it with ice cream just to bring it a little closer to the sweet side:)

That looks good. I like using reduced balsamic vinegar on things like this.

Hi Dani!
I tend to go for a lower cal ice cream. they really do taste the same to me and I can always use to save some calories:). Also, the regular ice creams have lots of sugar as well, so if I could save some fat and calories, why not!
And yes, I do the same thing as you....have an extra serving or two since it is low cal/fat! UGGHHHH!

Hi Dani ! Easy to answer your question for me. if that's the only treat of the day I go for the ice- cream ( but only mine!) without feeling guilty at all. Of course I cut on something else, but if I want to eat ice-cream I go for a good and real one, you know what I mean? I don't know there , but here in Italy frozen yogurt is usually real yogurt and nothing else. we make it with "fruttosio" the sugar of the fruit (sorry I don't know in english) and people love it. I like it but it doesn't satisfy me when I'm really in the mood for a treat, so I go for chocolate, vanilla and cream ! No doubts.

Valeria - Well if I owned an ice cream shop that served home made ice cream, you better believe I'd be eating it too:)!!

I am with you Dani on the ice cream vs yogurt thing ... though for different reasons. I am snobby when it comes to ice cream and I would rather pass then be left disappointed ... as I always am ... when I go for the low fat alternatives. I have not found any that match the wonderful texture and flavor of a premium quality ice cream. So, it is rare that I eat ice cream but, when I do, watch out, especially if it is my own home made stuff!!
This being said, I think I will pass on this recipe. I just can't think of combining anything with vinegar mixed with ice cream ... even balsamic glaze. Sorry!

Mitch - I understand, balsamic vinegar over ice cream sounds a little weird, but I'm telling you... it really is good:).
