Banana and Avocado Mash

Banana and Avocado Mash
I have a little secret to share.

I can't believe it myself, but the truth is...
I'm already bored to death of making "baby" food!

What can I say, steaming and mashing food doesn't do it for me - which is exactly why the Banana Avocado Mash has become a favorite around here - there is NO steaming involved - you just peel and mash!  Easy enough right?

Bananas are packed with potassium and avocados are chock full of healthy fats making this parent-friendly mash beneficial for both child and "masher".

This "batch" was a bit on the chunkier side but Katie made it perfectly clear that she prefers it "creamier" by sorting out the smooth pieces from the chunky pieces with her tongue before spitting out the "too-chunky-chunks".  I know it's wrong of me, but it's so fun to watch her go through this process that I'm often tempted to leave this mash a bit chunkier for pure entertainment!

If Katie could use words, my guess is that she would be saying, "Really Mom?...Really?... this is funny to you?... sick."
Katie in High Chair.jpgSO for those of you who are NOT evil and want to make your babies lives a little easier, simply add in some water, breast milk, or formula to smooth it out.

Honestly, I look forward the days when Katie is ready for some "real" food, but until then - I mash on!

Banana and Avocado Mash

Ingredients

1/2 of a banana
1/4 of an avocado

Directions

Using the back of your fork, mash the banana and avocado together until you have a smooth but slightly chunky mash.

*Note - if you want to have a smoother consistency, add some breast milk, formula, or water and mix and mash until you reach your desired results.

First things first - your daughter is beautiful!! I'm pretty good at reading faces - my prediction is that when she starts to walk, you may be chasing her around from morning til night - she looks curious and alert and very healthy.

Sounds like she still has the tongue-thrust reflex - not quite ready for the full blown solid version of the banana/avocado - her body's way of protecting itself from choking or her intestines aren't ready to digest it yet.

I'm so glad you're not buying into the jarred stuff - it's so expensive and unnecessary if you can do it yourself.

Love your blog!!

just Perfect¡, thanks dani..

Dani,
Katie, is so adorable....growing so quickly & getting prettier by the moment if that is possible.Speaking of foods she reminds me so much of the little 'Gerber' babies. Keep those mashed & steaming foods going as they seem to be doing her well.

Love the picture. A look that clearly says "seriously?" I get that look from Nico on a daily basis, never fails to crack me up. Like you, I am so OVER making baby food. It's been like a month for pete's sake... I've been giving Nico bits of whatever I have been eating (within reason based on what he has had so far) and he's been enjoying it a lot more than the purees. He does not like chunky bits within purees, but he will eat pieces of food.

Babies are weird.

Anyway, soon enough the people food will phase out the purees. And then before you know it you have a three year old. Oy. Time flies.

It's my first visit to your blog...pretty cool stuff. I actually prefer the purees! I have the most picky toddler in the world who eats almost the same thing for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday! So I remember purees as a much easier time food-wise. Hopefully your little angel won't be picky. But enjoy it while it lasts because soon you will have to be much more creative, it's exhausting!
