Ezekiel Bread
For those of you looking for a delicious high quality bread to add to your diet I hands down recommend Ezekiel bread!
Ezekiel bread (in my opinion) is the mother of all bread-type products.
It's an organic-sprouted-whole-grain-bread that is not only a complete protein but also weighs in very low on the Glycemic Index. These are the kind of carbs we want to be eating, whole unprocessed whole grain products. All you have to do is take a close look at this bread to see all the whole grains that it consists of.
Unlike many breads on the market today you will not see ingredients like enriched wheat flour, high fructose corn syrup, or preservatives listed in the ingredients. Some of the ingredients you will see are sprouted barley, millet, lentils, spelt, and soybeans! I mean seriously, when was the last time you can honestly say you had all of these nutritious ingredients in one sitting?
Remember, when choosing any breads you want to look for whole grains over simply whole wheat flour. This is easy enough because all you have to do is look at the bread… if you see whole grains and seeds you know you’ve got a good one. If you’re bread is brown but soft and fluffy you might want to take a closer look at the list of ingredients.
*Updated
Ezekiel products are also gluten-free flour free so for those of you that have food allergies this may very well be the product you have been looking for! It is not gluten free, but it does seem to be gentler on the system due to the sprouting process. Sprouting the wheat berry seems to break down the gluten a bit and many people who have wheat-gluten sensitivities seem to be able to tolerate this bread. The best part is that they make more than just bread. You can get English muffins, tortillas, buns, cereals, pasta and pita bread – lots of options!
Honestly guys, this is the bread that I have in my house 95% of the time (not including the occasional fresh baked whatever’s looking good). If you are not already used to eating a whole grain bread, Ezekiel may take a little bit of getting used to because it is a very hearty, textured bread (remember, texture is a good thing!). A good way to start out is by toasting it… it really intensifies the natural nutty flavors in the bread and is just d’lishes!
Whole Foods carries a lot of the Ezekiel products (the English muffins are to die for!). Trader Joe’s carries the bread and tortillas and most of the regular grocery stores where I live (So. Cal) carry at least the bread. If you're not sure where you can find it near you, check out the Ezekiel Store Finder.
So am I alone here? Have any of you guys tried any of the Ezekiel products before??
P.S. I have a crazy good, stupid simple, 3-ingredient Ezekiel Sandwich that I gonna post as soon as I get a chance (hopefully tomorrow!) so stay tuned;).
P.S.S. Just a note for those of you who insist on buying those low-cal breads (no worries by the way, I used to be just like you) made of air and I seriously don't even know what else, please stop! The goal is to be healthy and fit NOT skinny and tired. Forget the idea of low calorie foods and start to shift your thinking to whole, real, nutrient dense foods. (More on this later!)

I love ezekiel breads too! My favorite way to eat it is toasted with almond butter. It makes the thickness of it pleasant instead of dry like it sometimes comes off when cold.
Do you know, why is it that sprouted grains hurt your stomach less? I have some wheat sensitivities and I definitely feel like this is gentler on my body.
One thing though - I don't actually believe that the ezekiel products are gluten free. They contain sprouted wheat products, which are easier on your system, but still contain gluten.
Thanks for the great write up on this great product!

Amy - Yikes! You are completely right! The bread is flour free, not gluten free. My mistake!!
As far as being easier on the belly - It seems that the sprouting process begins an enzymatic action that starts to break down the gluten which makes it more easily digested. This may be why it works better for you.
Thanks for the correction:)!!

I have an Ezekiel english muffin nearly everyday for breakfast, and my favorite dinner lately has been hummus, baby spinach and part-skim mozzarella cheese sandwich on ww Ezekiel -- made all warm and melty in a panini press. YUM!!
You might also mention that the products are found in the freezer case, and should be kept refrigerated once thawed. And they are pricier than normal bread (go figure, right?) but imho worth it!

My mother is a whole wheat freak, so we always have Ezekiel in our house. I agree with the toasting it, because I'm not crazy about the whole wheat taste, but toasting it makes it a lot better. I love a piece of the bread toasted with a little bit of cream cheese. YUMM. :)

Hi Dani Spies!
I can't believe how you think of these things.....I will certainly try it as I feel I have been in a never ending pursuit of good bread that will become a permanent part of my diet. You know just bread that is naturally nutritious, I mean the kind that not only is good for you but makes your system work in all aspects, making it feel alive, if you will ......thanks! I will certainly try it. I never shop at whole foods as the prices are very high in my opinion for a lot of the thing I am looking for and only go there for a specific item every now and then.

I've been meaning to try this bread, too. For those that have tried it, what are your favorites? I hate trying new things, especially if they are pricier items (don't want to buy the wrong one and waste money). It seems like the English muffins are a favorite. Anything else?
My current favorite (hard-to-find) bread is Pepperidge Farm's Very Thin Whole Wheat Bread. You can get three slices for the same amount of carbs in one slice of regular whole wheat bread. It's great!

Hi! I was led here by Hil of Blueberry Hil so I've just been looking around. I love your blog and the ideas you have about food.
Also, I have tried Ezekiel English Muffins and I absolutely love them. I really don't eat any other bread anymore. I wish they were a little cheaper or would be on sale once in awhile, but that's ok. Anyway, I've only had the EMs because they're so great and versatile I haven't found a need for sliced bread.

We love Ezekiel Bread. I heard "manna" bread is good too but I haven't tried it yet. Hopefully, the big stores we carry the E bread. I have to make a special trip to get it.

Just tried the Ezekiel breads this week and my husband and I both love it. We are on a quest to eat healthy without having to sacrifice taste. I tried the turkey, avocado sandwich made with Ezekiel Cinnamon Raisin bread. It was great made on the Panini grill and quickly became a healthy favorite! Found your site when researching the Ezekiel products and am enjoying all the helpful information and tips. Thanks so much for sharing!

We love this type of bread/english muffins. Is there a location where you can purchase this in bulk for either item? We have lots of allergies in the family and try to eat more on the organic side for health reasons.

Tamie - Thank YOU for sharingh and I'm glad you are enjoying the site!
Robin - I'm not sure about purchasing in bulk... did you check their website?
Shannon - I find it lasts well over a week when I keep it in the fridge.

A relative introduced me to Ezekiel bread in the orange package and I LOVE IT! I agree that it tastes best when it is toasted.
I am a Physician Assistant and I do a lot of diabetic education with my patients. I am recommending Ezekiel bread to them. Since it is not made with flour, they get a more sustained release of blood sugar with this product instead of the spike that occurs after eating regular bread made with flour. PLUS most all breads contain high fructose corn syrup and preservatives which is crazy! (none of us need those two things)
I would love to see more recipes using these type products...
thanks!

I have a question about Ezekiel Bread. Where can I find it? Supermarket or Health Food Store? One more question...How much fiber is in the bread?
I don't know if this is the correct website for this. If it is not could anyone tell me where to go on the internet to find out the answers.
Thank You

This product (Ezekiel) has just been introduced to me and I'm having such a hard time finding it in my area. I live in NJ and am boardeline diabetic, so from what I hear, this bread is something that i can actually have instead of depriving myself. Can anyone help where I can buy this bread? I've tried the Ezekiel store finding and it tells me there's nothing in my area. Can this be true?

I love Ezekiel bread and eat it everyday. You are right, the English muffins are to die for. So much better than any other I've tasted. The raisin bread is awesome too. I'm trying to be gluten-free (by choice - I don't have gluten allergies) and I find that I'm not as tired and have more mental clarity as a result. The great news is that my 8-year old, who is an EXTREMELY picky eater and only eats peanut butter sandwiches for lunch and dinner everyday, eats the Ezekiel English muffins and Ezekiel hot dog buns. At least I know he's getting something healthy.

I just found this bread and it's wonderful. I am trying to lay off the gluten (or the bad kind) and the dairy so I had some Ezekiel bread this morning with goats milk butter and it was so wonderful. I felt energized almost immediately. It's like my body was saying,"Thank you!" I won't be using any other type of bread again unless I'm broke...it is very expensive! I can't wait to try the EM's!
