Product Review - Better Whey of Life Yogurt

Product Review - Better Whey of Life Yogurt
Up until recently, the only products I've ever "reviewed" on my blog were products that I use and love.  I've been resistant to allowing a company to send me products to taste and review quite simply because I think I can be a tough critic and I don't like the idea of receiving free samples of a product I've never tried before and then possibly having to give it a "negative" review...

I mean, doesn't that seem kind of sad? An excited company sends you a free product to review only to have you give it a big thumbs down?!  What can I say, I'm sensitive, I don't want to insult any ones product BUT I also don't want to be dishonest with my readers...

Well lately, I've been getting a lot of offers to sample and review some newer products and so I've decided to "get over myself" and jump right in.  (I mean really, who am I to turn down some free food samples!?).  So here we go...

Some of you may have already tried Better Whey of Life Yogurt (you can buy it at Whole Foods and some other Natural Food stores) but this was a first for me.  I've noticed it at Whole Foods recently but was not intrigued enough to pick it up.  I am very rarely lured into "fortified" foods, so left to my own account I may have never had the chance to try this yogurt.

Better Whey
is a protein-fortified yogurt that comes in five flavors (Plain, Acai Mixed Berry, Peach Mango, Strawberry Banana, and French Vanilla.)

Here's a little nutritional profile for you:
  • 6oz. cups
  • 130 - 145 calories
  • 15 - 17g protein
  • 7 - 14g sugar (30% less than popular brands)
  • 3g - prebiotic fiber

Nutritionally speaking, Better Whey gets a thumbs up in my book!  As for my pro's and con's, here we go:

What I really liked:

  • Not super sweet.  It's actually a nice combination of sweet and tangy which is a nice change of pace for the traditional fruit sweetened yogurts
  • It has about 30% less sugar than most fruit sweetened yogurts which is a biggie since the amount of sugar in other fruit flavored yogurts is usually what stops me from buying them
  • It is fortified with Whey protein, which is the most efficient source of post work out protein (enters your muscles for repair and recovery the quickest).  Whey protein is a complete protein and is always my first choice as far as protein "supplements" go
  • It's and easy, no-brainer way to have a quick, well balanced snack
  • Comes in 6oz. containers so it's great on the go
  • Added it to a smoothie and was super happy with the results

What I didn't really like:
  • When I do choose to eat fruit sweetened yogurt, I really prefer the fruit on the bottom (maybe a little nit-picky of me but true none the less)
  • The texture.  I'm a rich and creamy kind-a-girl.  Better Whey is very light and a bit more gelatinous than what I am used to in a yogurt.  With that being said, my husband LOVED the light texture so as the old saying goes, "different strokes for different folks"

Bottom Line:  Better Whey of Life Yogurt is definitely a quality product that would make a great addition to any balanced, nutritious diet especially for people that are consciously trying to work more protein into their diet.

Once I pop this baby out and get back to my normal workout routine, I will be looking forward to enjoying this yogurt as a quick and easy post-workout snack.

If you haven't tried it, I think it's worth a shot and if you need more reason than that, how about a coupon?!  You can download A COUPON HERE (just look to the bottom right hand corner of the screen).

Oh, and thanks to Kasey over at Better Whey for the coupons to do a little sampling!

Have any of you guys tried this yogurt yet?  If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks for the review!

I'm the CEO of Better Whey of Life and I'm thrilled you like the nutritionals and taste...and am happy your husband loved the texture!

As you can probably imagine, I'm a huge fan of whey protein. I dropped a skirt size and noticed my muscles more toned when I incorporated it into my diet. Thus Better Whey of Life -- whey protein yogurt was born.

Keep the feedback coming!

Amy :

Great review! I'd be happy to see more of these.

And if you don't want to review any of those items feel free to send them along my way ;)

:d :

Thanks Dani! I just downloaded the coupon and will be heading to Whole Foods today to try this yogurt. Too bad Whole Foods is the only store to get it right now.

I went to a store similar to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's combined, and came across on the store shelf Kale Chips. It was a small package that contained just a few Kale Chps, sprinkled with a cheese-spice powder. I'm so glad you showed us how to make our own...and I prefer just plain and lightly salted.
