Daregal Fresh Frozen Herbs
When Matt over at Daregal contacted me to taste and review some of
their products, I knew right away this was an ingredient that was right
up my alley (and also a great short cut in the kitchen that I thought a
lot of my readers could appreciate!).
I'm a big fan of adding fresh herbs to my meals because it's a really easy way to add a lot of flavor with out adding any extra calories or fat BUT the catch with fresh herbs is that they don't last super long and it's tough to keep a large variety of them on hand (which is why I love to plant a little herb garden in the summer!). And while I have nothing against dried herbs, you really can't compare them to fresh.
This is where the Daregal fresh frozen herbs come in. Basically, the Daregal herbs are picked fresh, washed, chopped, and frozen allowing them to maintain all of the nutrients, aromas, and flavors of the fresh herbs. This makes it really easy to incorporate some fresh herb flavors into your kitchen because all you have to do is grab whichever herb you need out of the freezer and sprinkle it into the dish you are making. You don't even need to defrost them... you just grab and go!
I know that the idea of working with fresh herbs can be daunting to a lot of people which is exactly why I thought this would be a good product to bring to your attention. And although, I'm not ready to say good bye to fresh herbs forever, what I love about the Daregal herbs is that they allow me to have a large variety of fresh flavors right at my finger tips. They offer Basil, Cilantro, Parsely, Oregano, and Dill, along with a handful of herb blends.
I haven't done a ton of experimenting with the herbs yet other than adding a sprinkle here or a sprinkle there just to liven up a quick dish (they are a great way to add a little pizzaz to sandwich or a canned soup). The only actual "recipe" I have used them for was a super-quick herbed grilled chicken (which I will post in the next couple of days) and I was really happy with the results. Very fresh and very fast... just the way I like it!
If you are interested Daregal has a few fun things going on right now. You can enter a sweepstakes to win some fresh herbs of your own AND you can enter their recipe contest (which ends May 15th) to see if you can't win yourself a nice, fat cash prize.
And if you want to see where you can buy these little guys, you can check this out.

Cyndi :
Your post is a day late! I have to make a chicken piccata dish for a teacher appreciation lunch today and I had to buy fresh parsley and chives. I only need a small amount and I'll have too much left over which bothers me. The frozen herbs would have been perfect!
Thanks for the tip! I hope you are feeling well these days!

Cyndi - Dang! I just missed it;). But I'll tell you this... chop up your parsley and chives and toss them into a salad, sprinkle them over a baked potato or try them scrambled into some eggs! This way at least you won't feel that you have wasted them!!

Thanks Dani - I needed a good suggestion - love eggs - love potatoes so that works for me!
I really look forward to your posts and videos - they are nutritionally sound but don't have the preachy-guilty feel. Thank you!

Hi Dani- These herbs sound incredible, I'd love to keep a stock on hand! Do you know any stores here in so. cal. that sells them? I checked online and their shipping is $27.00, which is a little prohibitive! (They're really well priced before shipping.)
BTW- I love your newsletters and Quickbites! Congradulations on your pregnancy!!
