The Sweet Potato
Other than the fact that they are absolutely delicious, what else makes these gorgeous potatoes so darn good?!
Every time I eat a sweet potato I can’t help but be SO surprised at just how sweet they really are. They are unbelievably sweet, which is how I suppose they earned their name;).

The cool thing about the natural sugars in sweet potatoes is that they have a very mild effect on our blood sugar. As they enter our systems, they slowly and gently elevate our blood sugar levels opposed to the spiking jolt that we get from simple refined sugars. The results: No energy crash after we eat them. Good deal, right?
This is why trying to satisfy a sweet tooth with the natural sugars found in root veggies and even certain fruits is a really good idea...they work with us not against us. And like I’ve mentioned before, I have tried this myself and it really does work…I swear.
Sweet potatoes are also much higher in nutrients than white potatoes, some of these nutrients include: Beta Carotene, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, and Iron. I mean c’mon, they‘re like a nutrient powerhouse, how could you NOT want to eat them?! I mean, they're good for us AND they taste great...what more could ya ask for?

HEALING PROPERTIES:
Sweet potatoes are known to assist in healing of the stomach, spleen, pancreas and reproductive organs AND they help to remove toxins from the body.
I haven’t done any personal experimenting with this one, but they are said to lessen cramps and pre-menstrual symptoms…any of you ladies have any experience with this?

ENERGY:
Yep…it’s true, different foods have different energies. (It’s good to keep this in mind when you’re experiencing extreme moods or emotions, this way you can choose foods that will counter balance these feelings).
Sweet potatoes are warm and nourishing to our bodies and encourage feelings of stability and strength. Sometimes when I am feeling confused OR if my brain just seems to be going faster than the rest of me, I’ll make an extra effort to include some more sweet potatoes and other root veggies into my diet to pull me back down. Hey, every little bit helps, ya know?
So now that you guys have plenty of good reasons to eat sweet potatoes and you know what to do with them what are you waiting for…get out there and buy some!!
