My Spring Cleanse

I have been debating whether or not I wanted to do any type of cleanse this spring.  I have done cleanses in the past and know they can be challenging to say the least.  Acually, the only type of cleanse I have done in the past is the Master Cleanse.  If you're not familiar with it, it's basically a ten day fast that consists of drinking a lemonade made from fresh lemons, maple syrup and cayenne pepper.  I personally find this to be a VERY challenging cleanse and wasn't looking for something so extreme this time around.

I was bopping around researching different types of Spring Cleanses and finally decided to just make up my own.  There are no real rules with my cleanse other than I am going to avoid caffeine, dairy, eggs, sugar, meat, alcohol and any processed foods for the next week.

I find that cleansing is as much if not more a psychological as it is a physical challenge. I think about food A LOT.  Like a lot, a lot.  Other than the fact that my career is based around food, personally I am always thinking about food; whether it be my next meal, going to the grocery store, or what I want to cook up next, my mind is some how always on food. So for me a big part of doing a cleanse is mental.  I just want to take a mental break from food for the next week.

I'm just going to keep things simple...fruits, veggies and maybe some whole grains, we'll see. I'm gonna journal about the week so if any of you guys have any questions or thoughts feel free to send them my way!!

I've done a cleanse like this before. It was tough at first, but I really did forget my old habits- sugary snacks, caffeine, etc. I felt so good and "new." You know- like a person who is just entering the world without any habits or dependencies yet. You've convinced me that I really need to do my own again. Right now I am held down by all of the mental conditioning and sugar habits. I need to be refreshed!

And this is silly, but do you mean processed, not unprocessed?

Ashley - I always find the first day to be the toughest. For it's always the mental commitment that can be the challenge and then of course the occasional first day fog or headache. It's a nice break and keeping things simple for a while can be refreshing:).
And YES! I did mean processed...thanks for pointing that out...I changed it:).

kelly :

Is it alright to eat chicken and fish when doing your cleanse?

Kelly - My initial answer would be no... you would not want to include chicken and fish as part of your cleanse because they are more difficult for your body to digest. When doing a cleanse you want to give your body a break so sticking to fresh fruits and veggies along with some whole grains would be a better choice. BUT with that being said, doing a cleanse is very personal and can be done to different degrees. For many people simply eliminating their afternoon mocha latte may be all they need to feel better...so at the end of the day,the choice is yours:).
